Book Thoughts: Mystery of the Egyptian Scroll (Peters)

  • first in a series based in Ancient Egypt
  • a sibling duo find themselves trying to solve a big crime
  • convo: ancient gods frequently mentioned and an occasional prayer to them, mentions of death without details, men angrily hold a boy underwater (brief)
  • language: gosh x1, stupid x3
  • includes historical note in back

Type: short chapter book
Ages: 8-12
Author: Scott Peters

This would make a great read-aloud. The chapters are kept quite short and are well-written. It’s fast-paced but not frantically so. The children show courage and honesty. We are going to check out the rest of the series soon!
