What a beautiful book! In the midst of somber events, much hope was brought to a little community with mere books. A sweet quote:
“The world of books is wonderful,” Nour thought, looking at the piles of books around her. “Like a galaxy full of stars. Some are shinier than others, but together they make the sky sparkle.”
The back includes many interesting facts as well as a short glossary (a chance for uncommon vocabulary words!). I was impressed with the combined abilities of author and illustrator to portray true war scenes while also keeping it soft enough for innocent young ones.
Because Syria is mostly Muslim, this comes out in the story (albeit briefly). It was presented well (in other words, not offensive to Christians, my main audience here) and could lead to some great discussions.
Well done!
