Book Thoughts: The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore (Joyce)

  • a book about books!
  • unusual & unique storyline
  • in a fantasy-like way, invokes a love for reading
  • charming & clever illustrations

Type: picture book
Ages: 4-8
Author: William Joyce
Illustrators: William Joyce & Joe Bluhm

This was featured to me by Goodreads, so since it was a “popular” book, I thought I’d check it out. (I admit I have a problem going down bookish rabbit holes!)

It was clearly written to demonstrate the “magic” of books–how they can awaken us, teach us, comfort us, and grow us.

The only part I didn’t love was the line: “Everyone’s story matters.” That type of phrasing has shown its ugly head on social media lately, and Christians actually do NOT need to “listen” to everyone’s stories (because they’re usually asking to be affirmed). But that’s a tangent from most of the book. 😉

This has apparently been made into a short film, but I have not sought that out. Have you seen it?
