- a well-written juvenile biography on the infamous author
- covers his whole life, the wars he lived through, his family and, of course, his writing
- convo: brief war descriptions, including mention of dead bodies
- great for anyone who loves hobbits or generally loves words/languages
Type: chapter book
Ages: 6+
Authors: Pam Pollack, Meg Belviso
Illustrator: Jonathan Moore
It is written very matter-of-factly, but it is readable and interesting. His history is occasionally interrupted by neat side bars of information–for example, some details about C.S. Lewis (his friend) or what World War I involved. I loved that he was faithful to his wife for all their decades together
There are definitely many people out there that know heaps more about Tolkien than I do, but, from what I knew already, this book seemed to be pretty accurate. We learned quite a bit more about his life, and it made me want to learn even more. You should check it out!
P.S. My recommending this book is, by no means, an approval or agreement on all elements of his life. 😉
