Book Thoughts: While Mrs. Coverlet Was Away (Nash)

  • gentle chapter book (tolerable suspense for early readers)
  • language: gosh x4, heck x2, Lord x3
  • most of book involves omitting/twisting the truth
  • entertaining and encourages creativity and independence

Type: chapter book
Ages: 6-9
Author: Mary Nash
Illustrator: Garrett Price

Though we let our kids read this, we also make sure to discuss “lying” versus “twisting/omitting truth.”

If you’re following me for my biblical point of view, I’ll also note there is one moment in the book where fingers are crossed for luck. Superstition is not biblical, but, for our family, it’s okay to read as long as we understand that.

Overall, it’s a fun and unique storyline.
