This is a very lovely book to own, but if you want to check it out first, it’s available for free at gutenberg.org. Oftentimes, it’s considered a Christmas book, so I’ll include it on that list, but multiple seasons pass during the story.

You might need to explain what scarlet fever is, but your youngest children should be able to understand the majority of the story. It’s a very sweet classic!
