Book Thoughts: Uncle Elephant (Lobel)

  • begins with a young elephant’s parents being lost at sea
  • a marvelous uncle swoops him up and cares for him until the happy ending
  • they humorously pretend something is magic for a moment
  • language: x2 darn

Type: longer picture book (9 short “chapters”)
Ages: 3-8
Author: Arnold Lobel

What a dear, wonderful uncle. I wasn’t sure where the story would go at first after the first scene of sadness (it’s kept minimal, if that’s a concern), but it was a joy to read. All ends well. ♡
