Book Thoughts: The Treasure Hunt (Willis)

  • 3 siblings find their summer beginning with a tailored-to-them treasure hunt
  • relatable characters with high integrity, respect for their parents, and good at having fun
  • clean language

Type: short chapter book
Ages: 7-10
Author: Kate Willis

Kate Willis has, in this one short book, proven to the world that sibling stories CAN be written without bickering or attitudes! It was a refreshingly sweet example of an intact family without feeling fake or syrupy. 🤭 The added component of a mild mystery was an additional pleasure.

I would place this book on the level just above “beginner chapter books.” It’s the same short length but at a notch more difficult writing. It would also make a good (and quick) family read-aloud, when you could definitely go lower than age 7. Though Kate has now written several books, this was her very first published book, so I started with it. Now I’m looking forward to reading more!
