Book Thoughts: Time of Wonder (McCloskey)

  • a contemplative view of what life on the islands of Maine is like
  • so many sights and sounds described in a palpable way!
  • bikinis in illustrations (somewhat abstract)
  • clean language

Type: longer picture book
Ages: 4-10
Author/Illustrator: Robert McCloskey

I’ve never seen anything religious in McCloskey’s. books before, but there were a couple elements in this one: a mention of one pair of eyes “watching over all” and the family singing a hymn while a hurricane rattles their house.

There are seasonal changes within, but it’s mostly focused on summertime, so if you’re looking for summer books, definitely pick this one up!
