Book Thoughts: Through the Wardrobe: How C.S. Lewis Created Narnia (Maslo)

  • poignant story of Lewis’ years growing up and how Narnia came to be
  • includes a *lot* of neat notes in the back for further reading
  • illustrations are well done, especially for those already familiar with the Narnia books

Type: biographical picture book
Ages: 5-10
Author & Illustrator: Lina Maslo

If you’re looking for a slightly longer biography (compared to the simpler “Finding Narnia” that is great for younger ages), you’ve found it. Maslo does a great job hitting the highlights and her illustrations are just fantastic. There are some fun surprises in the details, so have fun studying them!

The only reason I docked one star on Goodreads (follow me here if you like) is because I would have liked to hear more about his faith journey. As he has shared in other resources, it took him quite a while before embracing Christianity, which then had a big effect on his writing.

Overall, this will nicely introduce your children to C.S. Lewis. It provides different tangents of conversation, such as war, sibling relationships, using your imagination and more.
