*There are also a handful of “ain’t” words, if that bothers you. For us, we think they add to the fun of doing “hick” accents. 🙂 Also, there are quite a few references to “fat” people, which were meant to be amusing (and they were).
Even though the front cover says, “Do you believe in magic?” the book doesn’t actually go into magic very much. She would like to think her discovered thimble magically brought her good things, but it’s mentioned only a few times at most.
The girl is generally well-behaved and creative in problem solving, but there are a couple instances when she doesn’t display the best comportment (for example, running away for the day). However, it was, overall, a great read-aloud for us. A memorable story!
