On the slim chance that one of you has not read this book (ha!), I thought I’d post Hobbit thoughts today. I recently “re-read” it (this time as an audiobook, which I’ll comment more on below) to have it fresh in my mind as my son reads it for the first time soon.
Tolkien created a masterpiece of a fantasy world! Most specifically, in this case, his beloved creation of the hobbit species has charmed millions. In the book, a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins, who typically lives quietly and peacefully, reluctantly joins a rowdy group of dwarfs to help them reclaim what is theirs. They travel through enchanted forests, land themselves in great peril a number of times and encounter scary creatures.
Throughout their journey, Bilbo grows in his courage and discovers some hidden talents he never knew he had. The dwarfs’ respect for him increases throughout, and friendships are dearly bonded for life.
This might be the shortest summary of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien on the internet! Please share it if you found it helpful. 🙂 Happy reading!
P.S. Regarding the audiobook, the narrator was Andy Serkis! Since he plays Gollum in the movie, that voice was obviously perfect, but his other voices were eerily like the other actors’–quite well done. He definitely made some of the scenes more intense than they are while reading in one’s head, but the drama of it all is superb. I’m planning on continuing the series (The Lord of the Rings) with Andy, just to enjoy his talents for longer!
