Author: Katy Morgan
Round two and just as pleased! See my review of Katy Morgan’s first book of this series here. She makes it very clear that this is only a retelling and never strays into the implausible. The dialogue and day-to-day activities she adds do not distort Scripture’s version, but I’ll always encourage you to compare the two yourselves. Parents might like to know that the book ends before Bathsheba enters the scene.
The point-of-view (POV) changes throughout the book, and several years are skipped over a few times in the story. An interesting POV the author includes is of Michal, David’s wife, but we also see through the eyes of Saul, Jonathan, and David.
This was another audiobook win for me–Morgan reads her own book and does it well!
A couple other elements I appreciated were the non-cheesy dialogue (if you have read the opposite, you’ll know what I’m talking about) and the natural weaving of strong faith throughout. There were occasional remembrances of God’s protection, faithfulness, His Lordship, etc. He is our strong tower. He loves His people!
If you’ve been around a while, you know I research Christian authors more and hold them to a higher standard. The author belongs to a church with solidly biblical beliefs, and I am comfortable recommending her. Definitely check out her first book (which might be my favorite of these two), and I’ll link to any more books of hers I review in the future.
Happy reading!
