Book Thoughts: Six Dots (Bryant)

  • poignant biography on French teenager Louis Braille
  • convo: briefly describes the accident that caused his blindness
  • perceptive and age-appropriate illustrations

Type: biographical picture book
Ages: 4-10
Author: Jen Bryant
Illustrator: Boris Kulikov

I always love to re-read this one. Though there are obvious sad parts in Louis’s life, he is such an inspiration. Readers clearly feel the themes of perseverance and diligence, of reaching for excellence and helping others do the same.

The book includes an Author’s Note, great additional facts on Braille’s life, and suggestions for further reading. Please read this if you get a chance!
