Book Thoughts: A Sick Day for Amos McGee (Stead)

  • a man works at the zoo and has special animal friends
  • when he woke sick, the animal friends came for a visit!
  • marvelous illustrations

Type: picture book
Ages: 2-7
Author: Philip C. Stead
Illustrator: Erin E. Stead

This book has all the vintage feels but was actually published in 2010! Kids will love the idea of being friends with zoo animals–playing chess with an elephant, helping a rhino with allergies, reading books to an owl, etc. Even more fun for young readers is when Amos wakes up sick, can’t go in to work, so the animals visit him for a change! It’s a lovely book.
