Book Thoughts: The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls: The Beginning (Thomas)

  • 1st of 9 in early chapter book series
  • 2 siblings are charged with a quest, transported back to days of Creation
  • clean language
  • mild suspense
  • good alternative to Magic Tree House

Type: beginner chapter book
Ages: 5-9
Author: M.J. Thomas

I’d say the only thing that bugged me was the boy sibling is quite a complainer–BUT this noticeably lessens in subsequent books.

The other thing that might cause some eye-rolling is how the author clearly copycatted Magic Tree House in a couple regards. It wasn’t a big deal to us, though. Nice to find a clean and pretty short book for Grades 1-3!

We listened to the first three, but have also checked some out from the library. The physical books have several illustrations.
