Book Thoughts: The Runaway Bunny (Brown)

  • a young bunny talks about running away
  • the mother counters each of his ideas
  • colored illustrations alternate with black & white ones
  • language: x1 shucks

Type: board book
Ages: 1-4
Author: Margaret Wise Brown
Illustrator: Clement Hurd

So, I drafted my little caption for this and then read some other reviews out of curiosity. I found some of the negative reviews to be hilariously dramatic.

Most people who were annoyed at the mother said it was because she wouldn’t give him his freedom and was being a “helicopter mom.” Funny I was annoyed by the mother bunny for a totally different reason. The child was being allowed all the authority in the relationship and just needed to be told “No.” 😬😂

Don’t worry, it’s mostly silly and endearing. I’m sure the author was attempting to show how a mother is willing to go to any length for her child, and with that in mind, the story can be appreciated. 😊
