Initially, I wasn’t sure I’d be a fan of this one, since I typically don’t love “romance” in young children’s books. However, that part of the story was perfectly acceptable and written appropriately.
Having lived in three other countries besides the United States, I have a greater appreciation for books that portray different cultures to young children. It’s important on many levels–such as, it teaches that “different” is not “wrong/bad,” it reminds kids that the world doesn’t revolve around them, it encourages being adaptable, and more.
