Book Thoughts: The Paper Bag Princess (Munsch)

  • princess girl cleverly beats a dragon
  • story begins with a declaration of her love for a prince
  • one page shows her naked with a cloud covering waist area
  • “girl power” feel
  • she rightly changes her mind to not marry the bum prince

Type: Picture book
Ages: 2-6
Author: Robert Munsch
Illustrator: Michael Martchenko

The best part of the book was how she tricked the dragon. It’s easily understood by young children and can cause giggles! The shallowness of the prince might not be quite as quickly understood, but I suppose the story needed it as an extra element or it would have felt too incomplete. Overall, this was an “ehh” book for our family.
