Book Thoughts: The Nutcracker (Spinner)

  • unique version of the famous ballet, simplified for children
  • soft, dream-like illustrations
  • includes neat history of how the ballet’s story has changed over the years

Type: picture book
Ages: 4-8
Author: Stephanie Spinner
Illustrator: Peter Malone

The Nutcracker ballet was originally set to Peter Tchaikovsky’s music in the late 1800s. It continually endures through our current age to be a popular activity during the Christmas holidays–from attending a theater performance to listening to its music score to related decorations!

This particular edition comes with a CD with the full score–pop it into your CD player (if you still have one!) during mealtimes and you’ll have a beautiful background to your dinner without needing to bother with screens. 🙂 The story is a classic and each author lays it out differently, but the music is my favorite part.
