Who hasn’t asked the questions, “Why do bad things always happen to me?” or “How could God let this happen?” Certainly many of us will empathize with Nugget in this story. We’ve all complained at some point or another. We’ve all had trials, grief or hardship. Yet, do we comprehend the answers? Nugget’s story brings clarity.
Here are some highlights:
When the old man drew him from the ground, Nugget could not resist (John 6:44).
When he complained and fought, the man was gentle and patient (Matthew 11:29).
The man’s loving and kind eyes see true beauty when looking at Nugget (2 Corinthians 5:17, Hebrews 8:12).
Nugget wasn’t used to light, and it irritated him (John 3:19-21).
The man subjects Nugget to painful fire (1 Peter 1:6-7).
During the trial, the man speaks gently, “I am here with you…I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6, 8).
Nugget’s heart begins to change–toward inexpressible joy and gratitude (James 1:2, 1 Thessalonians 5:18).
These are just some of the messages I saw in this treasure of a book. It’s a simple story yet with meaningful depth. Highly recommend.
Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver;
I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.
