Book Thoughts: The Noisy Paint Box (Rosenstock)

  • story of famous artist, Vasily Kandinsky, and his unique approach to art
  • born and raised in Russia but eventually moved to Germany
  • the book shows several examples of his actual paintings
  • clean language

Type: historical fiction picture book
Ages: 4-8
Author: Barb Rosenstock
Illustrator: Mary Grandpré

The general premise of this book is based on the true life of Vasily Kandinsky, with some added dialogue and other small embellishments.

Kandinsky “heard” colors and his art reflects their sounds. It is thought now that he might have had synesthesia, but tests for it hadn’t yet been invented then.

This would go well with art history studies but can simply be enjoyed for no reason, too. 🙂
