Book Thoughts: National Geographic Book of Animal Poetry (Lewis)

  • beautiful collection of animal poetry for kids
  • includes neat sections such as “the winged ones,” “the quiet ones,” and more
  • language mostly clean (one poem uses “Lawd” 6 times)
  • two concerning poems (see * below)

Type: poetry
Ages: 3-12
Editor: J. Patrick Lewis

*First is a short poem about how orangutans were here long before us and are in our family tree.
*Second is an Inuit poem about strange magic, humans changing into animals and vice versa.

Overall, we really enjoyed this book! The interspersed photographs were amazing and always fun to study.
