Book Thoughts: Mr. Rabbit and the Lovely Present (Zolotow)

  • a little girl and her rabbit friend brainstorm gift ideas by color
  • repetitive lines add humor for small children
  • soft, vintage illustrations
convo: wine bottle depicted on one page

Type: picture book
Ages: 2-6
Author: Charlotte Zolotow
Illustrator: Maurice Sendak

Lines which repeat themselves are not everyone’s favorite, I know, but I did enjoy it in this book. It enables us to better visualize the colors they’re discussing. The rabbit (who we like to believe is her imaginary friend, because otherwise he looks a bit creepy, ha) is helpful to the little girl and they decide on a good gift for her mother’s birthday. Simple and sweet!
