Book Thoughts: Miss Rumphius (Cooney)

  • inspiring story that encourages readers to make the world a more beautiful place
  • magnificently told with elegant, well-crafted words
  • gorgeous illustrations that exude a peaceful calm
  • convo points: an “icon” image of Saint Nicholas appears on the dedication page, “cigar stores” mentioned

Type: picture book
Ages: 3-8
Author/Illustrator: Barbara Cooney

This book is positively lovely. I could read it again and again to my children. The only thing I’d add to the main character’s “life goals” would be, of course, to live a Christlike life in obedience to God’s laws in His Word. However, since that is daily in our family conversations, we can additionally enjoy reading beautiful pictures books such as these.
