* Harriet Colfax lived with her friend, Ann Hartwell, most of her adulthood. As far as I can tell, there is no proof their relationship was unbiblical. However, they are now included in various LGBT-focused history narratives. Additionally, one illustration shows them walking arm-in-arm, so perhaps the book’s creators are of this opinion.
The illustrations are what really make this book. They’re beautiful! Besides that, and agendas aside, it was just a so-so book for us. Lighthouse books we like more:
The Lighthouse Dog (Waterton)
Lighthouse Seeds (Love)
Lighthouse Dog to the Rescue (Perrow)
Lighthouse Christmas (Buzzeo)
One Lighthouse, One Moon (Lobel)
Hello Lighthouse (Blackall)
