Book Thoughts: The Lumberjack’s Beard (Beedie)

  • when a lumberjack discovers his tree felling has destroyed critter homes, he seeks a solution
  • creative, amusing and encourages good stewardship
  • refreshing & enjoyable illustrations

Type: picture book
Ages: 4-8
Author: Duncan Beedie

This book grew on me! (Heh, unintentional beard pun.) When the lumberjack realizes what he has done, his initial solution is comical yet impractical. Ultimately, though, he makes a good decision and there is a happy ending.

Though this was definitely written from a secular point of view, encouraging “green” thoughts and environmentalism conversations, I see no problem in reading the book as a Christian. It was, after all, to us humans that God gave the earth to steward and have dominion over.

Plus, I will admit, I love tree stories. So here’s my stamp of approval on this one. Enjoy!
