Book Thoughts: The Little Fir Tree (Corr, Andersen)

  • illustrated version of the original story by Hans Christian Andersen
  • a tree always pines to be elsewhere but eventually learns his forest was the best place to be
  • unique & slightly odd style of art, but memorable

Type: picture book
Ages: 4-8
Author/Illustrator: Christopher Corr
Original Story From: Hans Christian Andersen

This book grew on me, to be honest. My first reading didn’t wow me, but then I began to see the wisdom in the underlying message–the grass is not always greener on the other side!

It’s told in a gentle enough manner that it is appropriate, but I should note there is one sad part–the tree is temporarily put in a shed after being used as a Christmas tree.

Overall, it’s a unique story and I have no problem recommending it.

P.S. Can you find my two accidental tree puns above? 🙂
