- a sweet & delightful story about a bear who has writer’s block
- packed with famous literary references
- characters such as Mole Dahl, Beatrix Trotter, Crane Austen, Langston Mews (plus many more)
- inspiring to writers & ignites the imagination
- language: “What the dickens”
Type: picture book
Ages: 4-8
Author: Sophie Corrigan
What fun! Older children (especially those who are well-read) will appreciate the details, but the younger ages will still be charmed by the story.
Short and familiar quotes (to bookish nerds like me anyway) are built into the story. Examples:
- Crane Austen saying, “If a story is well-written, I always find it too short.”
- Loris Carroll saying, “Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
- Charles Chickens asking for more tea, “Please, sir, may I have some more?”
The illustrations are darling–see if you can find recognizable things–like a Wonka bar or a magic wardrobe. I definitely recommend this one!
