Book Thoughts: Lighthouse Lullaby (Briggs)

  • calm, rhyming words bring the day to a close on a lighthouse island
  • inspired by a real family and lighthouse off Cape Neddick, Maine
  • peaceful and lovely illustrations

Type: picture book
Ages: 2-6
Author: Kelly Paul Briggs

A lot of lighthouse books concentrate more on the light management, ships at sea, storms, etc. (and I love them!). But this one focuses on how a little boy ends a particular wintery day with his little family and the farm animals they keep. He accompanies his father in gathering the animals into the barn for the night, has a cozy dry-off/warm-up session with his mother by the fire and later falls asleep in blissful contentedness. A great option for a bedtime read!
