When a man cannot find his intended destination, he asks for directions. The two men he asks are named Mr. Latitude (a very tall and thin man) and Mr. Longitude (short and wide). Children will likely giggle at the dramatic enthusiasm these two portray when answering the lost man with much more information than he asked for!
Readers will learn about different types of maps, how a compass works, the imaginary longitude and latitude lines as well as a brief history lesson. My children got more out of the book the more times we read it–there’s quite a bit to absorb.
