Book Thoughts: The Legend of the Easter Robin (Mackall)

  • captivating story of a girl with her Gran as they observe a mother Robin
  • teaches a lesson of trusting God in all things–and that He cares for all His creatures
  • briefly reminds readers of the pain Jesus went through to save us
  • beautiful illustrations*

Type: picture book
Ages: 4-8
Author: Dandi Daley Mackall
Illustrator: Richard Cowdrey

The last page of the book emphasizes how legends and traditions can strengthen our faith and help us remember. It gives talking points.

*There are three page spreads in the middle which dramatically contrast the rest of the book. They are in black and white and show Jesus’s head with the crown of thorns as He carries His cross. There is also a whip mentioned and shown. Though it is done in an appropriate way for the intended audience age, you might want to give those pages a glance before reading to sensitive listeners.

Overall, this book is well-written and a fantastic addition to the Easter season.
