Book Thoughts: The Leaf Thief (Hemming)

  • a squirrel learns why he keeps losing leaves
  • beautifully illustrated with vintage feel
  • yoga depicted in one image
  • clean & funny for young children

Type: picture book
Ages: 2-5
Author: Alice Hemming
Illustrator: Nicola Slater

Gotta be honest—the vintage feeling of the artwork had my hopes too high for the text. 🙈 There’s nothing quite like beautiful, old-fashioned prose; however, this book was first published in 2020 and it’s written that way. Not a big deal! It’s a cute story that’s sure to make your child giggle.

I posted the Fletcher book yesterday, because they have similar themes—main character anxious because a tree is losing leaves in autumn. I would say The Leaf Thief is for an even younger crowd than Fletcher, as it’s shorter and simpler. ☺️🍂🍁
