Book Thoughts: Katie’s Picture Show (Mayhew)

  • first in a beautiful picture book series
  • Katie and her grandma visit the National Gallery in London to look at the pictures
  • She is able to climb into paintings and experience several pieces of art
  • Convo point: not obeying “Do Not Touch” signs

Type: picture book
Ages: 2-6
Author: James Mayhew

Truly a fun experience! Most people, in real life, won’t be able to see these works of art in person, so any book that can shine a light on their magnificence is okay in my book. Here are the works that were specifically shown or mentioned:

The Hay Wain (John Constable)
Madame Moitessier (Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres)
The Umbrellas (Pierre-Auguste Renoir)
Surprised! (Henri Rousseau)
Dynamic Suprematism (Kazimir Malevich)

Definitely check out more of this series than just this one if you want to increase your child’s art appreciation!
