- an illustrated story of John Chapman
- mostly clean language
(x2 “darn”) - enjoyable writing style
- he had a “vision,” which might necessitate a discussion with children
Type: longer picture book
Ages: 5-8
Author & Illustrator: Will Moses
I have mixed feelings about this book. There are so many different renditions of this man’s history, so just tread carefully. Enjoy the book, but discuss with your kids how frequently-retold stories can morph into “tall tales.”
Since this was written for children, it omits some of the weirder parts I’ve heard of Chapman’s life, but that’s okay with me. Elementary/introductory history books don’t need to include everything possible.
