*We don’t necessarily agree with all the theology, but it provides wonderful discussion. The main topics you might want to prepare for are infant baptism and covenantal children.
**Probably the most difficult scene is when a pastor is tied to a horse and dragged to his death. This is why I recommend age nine for the minimum, but please decide what works for your own family. The scene begins on page 95 (toward end of chapter 10).
The setting and conditions of this story are vastly different from what our American children experience today. Though that could lead to disinterest because of irrelevancy, I believe the author swings the pendulum the other way. It is highly motivating and convicting. It will stretch you as you ask yourself what you would do in their situation.
Not only that but I have to recommend it as a parenting book, too. What wonderful examples the parents set in this book! They catechize their children, discipline biblically and love wholeheartedly.
It’s absolutely good for either gender, but the characters it follows most closely are young twin sisters, so it might make an especially good gift for a girl nine or older. If you read it, let me know what you think!
