Book Thoughts: Heidi (Spyri)

  • simply delightful story of orphaned Heidi
  • [not nearly main focus, but]
    book’s theology was wonderfully biblical*
  • mostly clean language (stupid, idiot, heavens)
  • convo points [very minor part of story]: tobacco, pipe smoking, drinking

Type: longer chapter book
Ages: 6+
Author: Johanna Spyri

The last time I read this, it was actually an audiobook over many lunches with my children. The Hoopla reader, John McDonough, did an amazing job.

*Theology points:
> beautiful & powerful example of God answering prayers in His own way & own time
> Grandmamma points Heidi to God in her sorrow
> Such vivid examples of trusting the sovereign & good Lord in trials by being obedient
> Turns to hymns for encouragement

I think I considered this closer to 4 stars when I read it as a child, but it is a very full 5 stars for me as a mother now!
