Book Thoughts: Usborne Greek Myths (Amery)

  • well-written, simplified versions of many Greek myths
  • all “adult” type content in the originals is made appropriate or omitted
  • Usborne book (MLM)
  • handy pronunciation guide in the back

Type: story book
Ages: 6-10
Retold by: Heather Amery
Illustrator: Linda Edwards

This physically small book surprised us! It was packed full of famous stories and was, overall, a great introduction for our children.

Admittedly, my views on “never reading abridged” have altered over the last year or so. I have been convinced that good introductions like this book help the child be familiar with stories that they’ll be reading in their entirety when they’re older. A child unfamiliar with The Iliad, for example, might be a little intimidated to begin it, whereas one who knows the story will be more apt to jump right in!

Buckle up for some crazy stories if these are new to you. 🙂
