Book Thoughts: The Great Dictionary Caper (Sierra)

  • picture book about words
  • many grammar & reading puns
    likely over young kids’ heads*
  • non-rhyming
  • illustrations part of story
    (and they’re clever & entertaining!)
  • clean language

Type: picture book
Ages: 4-8
Author: Judy Sierra
Illustrator: Eric Comstock

*However, my avid reader 8-year-old found many of the puns funny (though he didn’t get all of them).

This book is fun but certainly better appreciated by those who can define homophones, onomatopoeias, palindromes, antonyms, and a few others. 🙂

Ironically, there is one misspelled word (“ryhming”) in this lexicological book. 😬🤭 But I am a sucker for punny books, so I couldn’t dock too many stars. 😉
