Book Thoughts: Gracie the Lighthouse Cat (Brown)

  • two rescue stories told simultaneously–one purely in the images while the other is supported by text
  • based on true story that happened in 1800s England
  • seemed too short
  • classy illustrations

Type: picture book
Ages: 4-9
Author: Ruth Brown

I don’t often think a picture book is “too short,” but that’s the main reaction I had with this one. Before you really got into the climax of the story, it was all over. And there was very little character development that helped us connect with them.

However, it was still neatly done with its “dual” aspect, as well as the fact that it’s a true story! Have you ever heard of Grace Darling before?
