Book Thoughts: The Gift of the Magi (Henry)

  • a young and poor married couple love each other dearly, each making a great sacrifice for the other
  • first published in 1903, new illustrations vividly bring this Christmasy story to the forefront for a new generation
  • no content or language concerns

Type: picture book
Ages: 4-12
Author: O. Henry
Illustrator: P.J. Lynch

If you are reading this to a child in the younger part of my recommended age range, just note that there are quite a few unfamiliar words. Even the older kids (and probably adults) will learn new vocabulary! It only makes the beautiful book that much richer. A second read will definitely help comprehension.

Lovely, lovely book!
