Book Thoughts: Every Little Seed (Schumerth)

  • a girl, following the wisdom of her mother and grandpa, observes the activities of seeds
  • convo regarding note in back: “32,000 years ago” mentioned, encourages children to become naturalists*
  • positively charming illustrations

Type: picture book
Ages: 4-8
Author: Cynthia Schumerth
Illustrator: Elisa Paganelli

*I point this out, because the author defines a naturalist as “a person who cares about nature,” which isn’t nearly close to encompassing the real use of the word. It’s leading children astray from the truth about God’s creation by making them comfortable with a word the world loves to use. One can be a Christian and care about nature. In fact, Christians should be the most caring of all people regarding nature stewardship, but I digress…

Besides those two conversation points, which aren’t even in the text of the story itself, I really loved this book. The illustrations were so wonderful, and the rhyming storyline successfully captured our attentions. Wish I could give it 5 stars!
