Book Thoughts: Eating the Alphabet (Ehlert)

  • “A to Z” reference book for toddlers
  • colorful & bright
  • detailed glossary included
  • convo point: “prehistoric,” the age of the earth

Type: picture book
Ages: 1-6
Author: Lois Ehlert

There is no story to this book–it just has letters (each with a capital and lowercase) and pictures of food that begin with that letter.

The glossary has an historical note on each fruit or vegetable mentioned. This is where you might want to be ready for the above-mentioned conversation points. It does not mention “millions of years,” but it does mention “twelve thousand years” more than once as well as the term “prehistoric.”

Your smallest kids are bound to love the colors and variety!
