Book Thoughts: Dog Diaries: A Middle School Story (Patterson)

  • hilarious chapter book
  • from the dog’s perspective
  • language: constant poop/pee jokes, butt, fart
  • yoga briefly shown in illustrations

Type: chapter book
Ages: 7-10
Author: James Patterson
Illustrator: Richard Watson

This is the first book in a series, and the only one I’ve read so far. The constant poop/pee references make my 8-year-old howl with laughter (no pun intended).

The dog also calls things funny names. The car is a “moving people-box on wheels,” and the shower is a “drippy water box.”

I don’t know a whole lot about Patterson’s works, but this book was fine for my kids.
