The Day-Glo Brothers (Barton) | keenlykept.com
  • fascinating story of brothers who invented glowing dyes that helped save lives
  • convo: mentions a woman “cavorted” (dancing, in this case) on stage, mentions “spiritualists” using the paint to trick people in thinking they were talking to ghosts of dead loved ones
  • fun, neon-colored illustrations with a vintage feel

Type: lengthy picture book biography
Ages: 7+
Author: Chris Barton
Illustrator: Tony Persiani

An engaging book! I’d never heard of these men before, and it was a neat experience to learn about how their invention came about. The author does not talk down to children and has a vocabulary level not usually seen in picture books. Its length might also be a deterrent for your youngest kiddos, but most all ages could find this a great biography. I’m glad I read it!
