Book Thoughts: Corn is Maize (Aliki)

  • follows the life cycle of a corn seed, its history, its uses
  • convo: mentions & depicts how the Indians prayed to the “Corn Gods” and praised the corn itself, mentions GMO corn as a hopeful help in the future
  • illustrations show a woman shirtless with a necklace minimally covering breasts, other nude people but nondescript

Type: picture book
Ages: 4-8
Author: Aliki

Well, there’s certainly a neat education within this book’s pages, but it definitely falls into the “dated” category. I would probably seek out another book on corn, if you didn’t want to have long discussions about this one’s errors. 🙂
