Book Thoughts: Cornbread & Poppy (Cordell)

  • two best friends with many differences work together to fix a problem
  • teaches hard work (against procrastination), shows bravery and kindness
  • cozy illustrations with a vintage feel

Type: beginner chapter book (or longer picture book)
Ages: 5-8
Author: Matthew Cordell

At the time of writing this, there are three books out in this new series and at least one more on its way next year. If I read more in the series, I’ll be sure to update this post if there are concerning elements.

It’s an overall safe and amusing book to hand your child who’s ready to try a short chapter book. A couple scenes felt a little forced or shallow, so I find myself on guard for subsequent installments. However, I really have no concrete complaints, so I recommend it!
