Book Thoughts: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Fleming)

  • a family has an upbeat & comical adventure
  • their newly acquired car has amazing tricks
  • would make an entertaining read-aloud
  • convo: cigarettes are mentioned, magic
  • language: x1 idiot, a few “heavens” exclamations, x1 gosh, x4 by golly, x1 gee whiz

Type: chapter book
Ages: 6-10
Author: Ian Fleming

If your child loves to invent things, have adventures or even enjoys car mechanics/restoration, this book has it all! The Pott family’s summer sure took a wild twist, though all four of them were always up for mysterious excitement anyway.

If it weren’t for the bit of language that does indeed bother some readers, I would give it a solid five. The whole thing is upbeat, keeps you smiling and keeps the pages turning.

I should mention there is a kidnapping, but even that is kept positive (hard to explain till you read it). It’s quite benign and infused with its own humor.

This lively read doesn’t take long to work through and your children are sure to enjoy it. 🙂
