Book Thoughts: Brave Irene (Steig)

  • a small girl braves a storm to help her sick mother deliver an important package
  • the mother-daughter relationship is sweet and special
  • Irene shows perseverance, courage, kindness and respect for her elders
  • clean language

Type: picture book
Ages: 3-8
Author: William Steig

Now this is a superior picture book, in my opinion. Most of the book has Irene fighting against and arguing with the wind. Her strength and determination to finish what she set out to do is an admirable example to all ages.

Love this one.
