Book Thoughts: Big Moon Tortilla (Cowley)

  • a girl is distracted, loses her homework and breaks her glasses
  • the grandmother helps her view her problems in a wise fashion
  • set on a Papago reservation in southern Arizona

Type: picture book
Ages: 4-8
Author: Joy Cowley
Illustrator: Dyanne Strongbow

The grandmother’s solutions and thoughts on problem-solving are highly adaptable to any problem. The book teaches a good lesson while also telling an effective story.

And, like the girl was distracted by her grandmother’s tortilla making, I am now distracted by thoughts of Navajo fry bread, which, in my mind, must taste somewhat similar. Yum!
